The Major Case Unit is comprised of sworn and civilian personnel. Detectives are tasked with investigating a wide variety of complex crimes. In addition, detectives engage in partnerships with local, state and federal authorities in an effort to provide the community with the highest level of innovative law enforcement service. Detectives participate in information sharing forums to discuss crime trends and investigative techniques with local, state and federal partners. The MCU consists of the Homicide Task Force, the Homicide Cold Case Squad, the Gang Intelligence Unit, the Crime Scene Investigation Unit, the Regional Fatal Collision Unit, and the Regional Arson Task Force. An Assistant Prosecutor has primary oversight responsibility for all investigative and legal activities. The legal staff consists of Assistant Prosecutors and Support Staff who are on call 24/7 to provide counsel, prepare charging documents and to seek court authorization for search warrants, communication data warrants, orders of temporary detention and any other legal action which will facilitate the investigation.
