The Record Room located in the Office of the Hudson County Prosecutor is responsible for the creation, organization and data entry of all criminal files handled by the Office. Upon referral of a criminal complaint, the record room assigns the matter a file number in the Promis/Gavel Prosecutor and Court Information System and maintains electronic and paper files of every criminal matter handled by the Office.
The Record Room works closely with both Municipal Court and Superior Court administrators and clerks to maintain an accurate record of all criminal proceedings. If a matter is downgraded at any point prior to indictment, the Record Room is responsible for processing the remand paperwork necessary to return the matter to the appropriate Municipal Court. The Record Room also handles transfers of criminal cases to and from the State Attorney General’s Office and other county’s prosecutor’s offices. The Record Room is also responsible for data entry following any Grand Jury presentation.
