JERSEY CITY POLICE OFFICER CHARGED WITH FORGERY

Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez has released the following information:

On Tuesday, June 25, 2024, members of the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Internal Affairs Unit arrested a Jersey City Police Officer following a forgery investigation.

Justin Rivera, 31, is charged with six counts of Forgery/Uttering Forged Documents in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:21-1a(3), crimes of the fourth degree. He was arrested at the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office in Jersey City and released pending his first court appearance, which is tentatively scheduled for Tuesday, July 9, 2024.

Between March 2022 and January 2023, Rivera submitted six records to the Jersey City Police Department requesting medical leave. The investigation found the six records were forged/altered, granting Rivera over eight weeks of additional medical leave.

Prosecutor Suarez credited the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Internal Affairs Unit and the Jersey City Police Department Internal Affairs Unit with the investigation and arrest. The above charges are merely accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty. R.P.C.3.6(b)(6)
