West NY Man Charged; Second Suspect Sought in Homicide

WEST NEW YORK MAN CHARGED IN JERSEY CITY HOMICIDE; ARREST WARRANT ISSUED FOR SECOND SUSPECT  

Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez has released the following information:

On Monday, July 30, 2018, members of the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit arrested Bruce Stewart, age 24, of West New York, in the area of Union and Sackett streets in Jersey City without incident in connection with the death of Glen Mackie, Jr., that occurred on Lexington Avenue in Jersey City earlier this month.

Stewart has been charged with Reckless Manslaughter in violation of N.J.S. 2C:11-4, a second-degree crime. Stewart made his first appearance on these charges in Criminal Justice Reform Court in the Hudson County Administration Building in Jersey City earlier this afternoon.

Additionally, Prosecutor Suarez announced that an arrest warrant has been issued for Elnardo Chandler, age 29, of Jersey City in connection with this incident. Chandler has been charged with Reckless Manslaughter in violation of N.J.S. 2C:11-4, a second-degree crime.

All information will be kept confidential. Chandler should not be approached by members of the public.

On Thursday, July 5, 2018, at approximately 12:15 a.m., Jersey City Police Officers were dispatched to the area of Lexington Avenue in Jersey City on a report of a street fight. Upon arrival, responding officers found Mackie, age 29, of Jersey City, on the sidewalk in the area of 21 Lexington Avenue.

Mackie was unresponsive with an obvious wound to his head. He was transported by Emergency Medical Services to the Jersey City Medical Center. He was pronounced dead at approximately 5:00 p.m. on Friday, July 6, 2018. The Medical Examiner has determined the cause of death to be blunt force trauma to the head and manner of death to be homicide.

The above charges are merely accusations, and the defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty. R.P.C.3.6(b)(6).
