UNITED STATES POSTAL SERVICE EMPLOYEE CHARGED WITH INSURANCE FRAUD

Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez has released the following information:

A mail sorter employed by the United States Postal Service was arrested by members of the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Insurance Fraud Unit for submitting fraudulent medical claims to his insurance company.

Gerald Hunter, 32, of Jersey City, is charged with one count of Insurance Fraud in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:21-4.6a(1), a crime of the third degree. He was arrested without incident at the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office in Jersey City on Wednesday, June 15, 2022 and released on a summons pending his first court appearance on Tuesday, June 21, 2022. The investigation determined on two separate occasions in 2021, Hunter submitted falsified medical records for reimbursement to AFLAC insurance.

Prosecutor Suarez credited the Insurance Fraud Unit with the investigation and arrest. The above charge is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty. R.P.C.3.6(b)(6).
