Suspect Wanted in Bayonne Fatal Stabbing


SUSPECT WANTED IN CONNECTION WITH FATAL STABBING OF BAYONNE MAN

Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez has released the following information:

The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office is seeking the public’s help in locating the whereabouts of the suspect wanted in connection with the death of a 29-year-old Bayonne man who was fatally stabbed on March 2, 2021.

Elvis Santana, age 30, of Bayonne, has been charged in relation to the death of Mathew Mortimer who was found with multiple stab wounds to his body in the vestibule of 1095 Avenue C in Bayonne.  Santana is charged with Murder in violation N.J.S.A. 2C:11-3A(1), a crime of the first degree; Possession of a Weapon for Unlawful Purposes in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:39-4D, a crime of the third degree; and Unlawful Possession of a Weapon in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:39-5D, a crime of the fourth degree.

On Tuesday, March 2, 2021, just before 3:30 p.m., members of the Bayonne Police Department responded to 1095 Avenue C between 53rd and 54th Streets in Bayonne on reports of a stabbing.

Responding officers found a male victim in the building vestibule with multiple stab wounds.  The victim, later identified as Mathew Mortimer, age 29, of Bayonne, was transported to the Jersey City Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries.  Mortimer was pronounced deceased at approximately 4:15 p.m. The cause and manner of death are pending the findings of the Regional Medical Examiner’s Office.

The above charges are merely accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty. R.P.C.3.6(b)(6).
