REPEAT OFFENDER IS SENTENCED TO LIFE IN PRISON WITHOUT PAROLE

On Thursday, March 3, 2016, the Honorable John A. Young J.S.C., sentenced Shawn Barrett, age 48, of Stevens Avenue in Jersey City, to Life in Prison without Parole as a violent repeat offender. In September of 2015, a jury found the Defendant guilty of first degree kidnapping, first degree aggravated sexual assault, sexual assault, and terroristic threats. The victim, a 26 year old Bayonne resident at the time of the incident, spoke at the sentencing hearing and asked the Court to sentence the Defendant to “life” because she feared that he would “do this again” if he were to be released.  Assistant Prosecutor Najma Rana represented the State throughout the proceedings and was thankful for the tireless work of all the Special Victims Unit Detectives and the Jersey City Police in apprehending this serial predator. The Defendant is scheduled to be sentenced on a separate sexual assault before the Honorable Joseph V. Isabella J.S.C. on April 22, 2016.
