PUBLIC’S HELP SOUGHT IN LOCATING VEHICLE INVOLVED IN FATAL HIT-AND-RUN COLLISION

Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez has released the following information:

The Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit and the Jersey City Police Department are seeking the public’s help in identifying a vehicle involved in a fatal hit-and-run collision that occurred on Friday, October 20, 2023.

At approximately 6:45 p.m., the Jersey City Police Department was notified of a pedestrian struck in the area of Fairview Avenue and Monticello Avenue. Responding officers located a male victim – later identified as Mumtaz Chaudhry, 85, of Jersey City – in the area of Fairmount Avenue and Summit Avenue. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The preliminary investigation found the victim appears to have been struck by a light colored Toyota Siena. Photos of the vehicle suspected to be involved in the collision are below.

The Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit and the Jersey City Police Department are actively investigating this case.
