MAN SENTENCED TO 18 YEARS IN PRISON FOR AGGRAVATED SEXUAL ASSAULT

Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez has released the following information:

On Tuesday, Sept.6, 2016, Superior Court Judge Mark J. Nelson sentenced Rigoberto Acheituno, age 29, to 18 years in state prison for the aggravated sexual assault of a 9-year-old girl in Union City on Sept. 19, 2015. He must serve all 18 years before he is eligible for parole.

The conviction subjects the defendant to Parole Supervision for life and Megan’s Law registration after his 18-year prison term is completed.

Acheituno rented a room in the apartment where the victim lived with her family in Union City. He sexually assaulted the victim while her mother was taking a shower. The victim told her father what had happened when he returned home from work and he immediately called the police. The investigation led to the arrest of Acheituno on Sept. 20, 2015.

The case was investigated by the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit. The State was represented by Assistant Prosecutor John Mulkeen, Chief of the Special Victims Unit.
