Man Sentenced to 10 Years In Prison For Sexual Assault

MAN SENTENCED TO 10 YEARS IN PRISON FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT AND ENDANGERING THE WELFARE OF A CHILD BY MAKING CHILD PORNOGRAPHY  

Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez has released the following information:

On Friday, October 4, 2019, Superior Court Judge Mark Nelson sentenced 35-year-old Eric Reyes of Jersey City to 10 years in New Jersey State Prison for Endangering the Welfare of a Child for making child pornography and Sexual Assault by Contact of two young girls who were related to his girlfriend. The defendant pleaded guilty to the charges on June 17, 2019.

Reyes will have to serve 85 percent of his sentence without the opportunity for parole under the No Early Release Act. The defendant is subject to Parole Supervision for Life and Megan’s Law registration after his prison term is completed.

Reyes was arrested on November 10, 2018, after his girlfriend discovered videos on his cellphone of her adult sister using the bathroom and a young girl taking a shower. The following day, his girlfriend located and provided additional videos to the police of the defendant recording himself while sexually abusing her two young relatives. A search of his electronic devices also revealed child pornography.

The case was investigated by the Jersey City Police Department and the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit. The State was represented by Assistant Prosecutor Jane Weiner.
