Man Charged with Murder for Wife’s Death in Bayonne

MAN CHARGED WITH MURDER FOR DEATH OF BAYONNE WOMAN

Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez has released the following information:

Members of the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit have charged a 32-year-old man in connection with the death of his wife Mely Vanessa Tafoya Mendoza in Bayonne.

Peter Revelo, 32, of Bayonne, has been charged with Murder in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:11-3a(1) (2), a crime of the first degree, Possession of a Weapon for an unlawful Purpose in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:39-4d a crime of the third degree, and Unlawful Possession of a Weapon in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:39-5d, a crime of the fourth degree.

On Wednesday, March 2, 2022, at approximately 11:58 a.m., the Bayonne Police Department received a 911 call for service to 105 North Street. Responding officers found a woman, later identified as Mely Vanessa Tafoya Mendoza, 33, of Bayonne, with an apparent stab wound to her torso. She was pronounced dead at the scene at approximately 12:36 p.m. The Cause and Manner of death are pending the findings of the Regional Medical Examiner’s Office.

Revelo was taken into custody at the scene and charged at the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office in Jersey City.

The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit and the Bayonne Police Department are actively investigating this case.
