Man Charged in West New York Fatal Stabbing

MAN CHARGED IN CONNECTION WITH WEST NEW YORK FATAL STABBING

Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez has released the following information:

The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office has charged a 40-year-old man in connection with the fatal stabbing of a woman in West New York on Tuesday, February 7, 2023.

Jimmy Elvira-Quintero, of West New York, is charged with Murder in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:11-3a, a crime of the first degree; Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose (knife) in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:39-4d, a crime of the third degree; and Unlawful Possession of a Weapon (knife) in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:39-5d, a crime of the fourth degree. Elvira-Quintero is in custody at Hackensack University Medical Center and will be transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility when cleared.

At approximately 5:54 a.m., the West New York Police Department was notified of an injured person at 4914 Murphy Place. Responding officers located the lifeless body of a female – later identified as 24-year-old Daniela Garcia-Murillo – with apparent stab wound(s) to the abdomen. She was pronounced dead at the scene at 6:31 a.m. The Cause and Manner of Death are pending the findings of the Regional Medical Examiner’s Office. This matter is being investigated as an act of domestic violence.

The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit and the West New York Police Department are actively investigating this case.
