On Thursday, September 21, 2023, members of the Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit arrested an Elizabeth man in connection with a hit-and-run crash that injured two pedestrians in Kearny on Sunday, February 19, 2023.

Ivo DaSilva-Oliveira, 24, is charged with Knowingly Leaving the Scene of a Motor Vehicle Collision Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:12-1.1; two counts of Endangering an Injured Person in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:12-1.2a; and Causing Injury as an Unlicensed Driver in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:40-22b. He was arrested at the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office in Secaucus and released pending his first court appearance, which is tentatively scheduled for Friday, September 29, 2023.

On Sunday, February 19, 2023, shortly after 6 p.m., the Kearny Police Department was notified that two pedestrians were struck in the area of Belgrove Drive and Wilkinson Terrace. Responding officers located two female victims, ages 57 and 77, both of Kearny, at the intersection. The striking vehicle did not remain at the scene. Both victims were transported by Emergency Medical Services to University Hospital for treatment.

Prosecutor Suarez credited the Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit and the Kearny Police Department with the investigation and arrest. The above charges are merely accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty. R.P.C.3.6(b)(6)
