BAYONNE MAN CHARGED IN HIT-AND-RUN COLLISION THAT SERIOUSLY INJURED BICYCLIST IN JERSEY CITY

Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez has released the following information:

On Wednesday, September 20, 2023, members of the Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit arrested a 33-year-old man in connection with a hit-and-run collision that seriously injured a bicyclist on July 24, 2022 in Jersey City.

Joseph Emmons, of Bayonne, is charged with Endangering an Injured Victim in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:12-1.2a, a third-degree crime; False Report to Law Enforcement Authorities in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:28-4b(1), a fourth-degree crime; and Tampering With Physical Evidence in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:28-6(1), a fourth-degree crime. He was arrested at the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office in Secaucus and released pending his first court appearance scheduled for Friday, September 29, 2023.

On August 1, 2022, the Jersey City Police Department was notified of a 64-year-old male patient at Jersey City Medical Center who was involved in a hit-and-run incident and suffered serious injuries. The investigation found that the victim was riding a bicycle at approximately 12:30 a.m. on July 24, 2022 in the area of Kennedy Boulevard and Terhune Avenue in Jersey City when he was struck by a red Hyundai automobile and projected into a parked vehicle.

Prosecutor Suarez credited the Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit and the Jersey City Police Department with the investigation and arrest. The above charges are merely accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty. R.P.C.3.6(b)(6)
