BAYONNE MAN ARRESTED ON DRUG DISTRIBUTION CHARGES

Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez released the following information:

Following a two-month investigation, members of the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Narcotics Task Force arrested a Bayonne man for the distribution of cocaine in Bayonne, New Jersey. On August 8, 2016, Task Force Officers and Bayonne Police Officers arrested Alexander Mendoza, age 32, of Bayonne on various charges involving the possession of cocaine with intent to distribute. Mendoza was arrested during a motor vehicle stop conducted by officers. A search of Mendoza, pursuant to a court-authorized Search Warrant, led to the recovery of approximately 15 grams of cocaine.

Officers then proceeded to Mendoza’s residence where a search of his apartment led to the recovery and seizure of more than 80 grams of cocaine. The street value of the total quantity of cocaine that was seized is approximately $5,000.

Bail for Mendoza was set at $100,000 cash or bond and he was charged with the following:

• 2 counts of Possession with Intent to Distribute a Controlled Dangerous Substance (Cocaine) in a quantity greater than one half ounce but less than five ounces in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C: 35-5a(1) and N.J.S.A. 2C: 35-5b(2).

• 1 count of Possession with Intent to Distribute a Controlled Dangerous Substance (Cocaine) in a quantity greater than one half ounce but less than five ounces, while within 500 feet of a public park in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C: 35-7.1A.

• 1 count of Possession with Intent to Distribute a Controlled Dangerous Substance (Cocaine) in a quantity greater than one half ounce but less than five ounces, while within 500 feet of public housing in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C: 35-7.1A.

The above charges are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty. R.P.C. 3.6(b)(6)
