MAN ARRESTED IN UNION CITY AFTER REGIONAL SWAT TEAM NEGOTIATES HIS SAFE SURRENDER TO AUTHORITIES

Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez has released the following information:

On Saturday, March 14, 2020, the Hudson County Regional SWAT Team was activated for the purpose of assisting the Union City Police Department with taking an individual with an outstanding arrest warrant into custody at 4535 Broadway in Union City. Responding Officers identified the individual as Isaias Linares Diaz, age 51, of Union City, who had an outstanding arrest warrant out of Union City on weapons charges and a charge of criminal restraint.

Members of the UCPD made contact with Diaz but he allegedly refused to exit the apartment. With the assistance of the UCPD, SWAT negotiators were able to make contact with Diaz by telephone leading him to agree to surrender to the Union City Police Officers. He was arrested without further incident.

Diaz has been charged with Resisting Arrest in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:29-2, a third-degree crime; and Obstruction in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:29-1, a fourth-degree crime.

Prosecutor Suarez credited the Hudson County Regional SWAT Team and the Union City Police Department with the arrest.

The above charges are merely accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty. R.P.C.3.6(b)(6).
