Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez has released the following information:

On Wednesday, December 20, 2023, members of the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit arrested a 16-year-old Jersey City male in connection with the fatal stabbing of Naseer Munroe.

The 16-year-old is charged as a juvenile with Murder in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:11-3a(1), Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:39-4d, and Unlawful Possession of a Weapon in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:39-5d. He was arrested at the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office in Secaucus. Juvenile matters are confidential and no additional information can be released at this time.

On Friday, December 15, 2023, at approximately 8:55 p.m., the Jersey City Police Department received a report of a stabbing in the area of Duncan Avenue and Wilmont Street in Jersey City. Upon arrival, responding officers located a male victim – later identified as Naseer Munroe, 18, of Jersey City – with an apparent stab wound to the torso. Munroe was transported by Emergency Medical Services to Jersey City Medical Center where he was pronounced dead shortly after 10 p.m.
