Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez has released the following information:

On Wednesday, December 27, 2023, members of the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit charged a 17-year-old Jersey City male in connection with the fatal shooting of an 18-year-old male that occurred in Jersey City on December 18, 2023.

The 17-year-old is charged as a juvenile with Aggravated Manslaughter in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:11-4a(1), a first-degree crime; Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:39-4a(1), a second-degree crime; and Unlawful Possession of a Weapon in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:39-5b(1), a second-degree crime. Juvenile matters are confidential and no additional information can be released at this time.

On Monday, December 18, 2023, at approximately 2:20 p.m., an 18-year-old male — later identified as Angel Regalado Guzman of Jersey City — arrived at Jersey City Medical Center in a private vehicle with an apparent gunshot wound to the upper body. He was pronounced dead shortly before 4 p.m. The Regional Medical Examiner’s Office determined the Cause of Death to be Gunshot Wound to the Head and the Manner of Death to be Homicide. The investigation determined that the fatal shooting occurred in a residence on Ocean Avenue in Jersey City.

Prosecutor Suarez credited the Homicide Unit and the Jersey City Police Department with the investigation and arrest.

The above charges are merely accusations and the juvenile is presumed innocent until proven guilty. R.P.C.3.6(b)(6)
