Jersey City Motorcyclist Charged In Bayonne Crash


JERSEY CITY MAN CHARGED WITH AGGRAVATED ASSAULT CAUSING BODILY INJURY IN BAYONNE MOTORCYCLE CRASH THAT INJURED WOMAN

Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez has released the following information:

On Tuesday, October 13, 2020, the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Regional Collision Investigation Unit arrested Peter Bishara on upgraded charges related to a serious motorcycle crash in Bayonne on June 16, 2020 that injured a 26-year-old woman.

Bishara, age 26, of Jersey City, was arrested and charged shortly after 2:30 p.m. at the Prosecutor’s Office in Jersey City. He was charged with Aggravated Assault Causing Bodily Injury While Fleeing Law Enforcement in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:12-1B(6), a crime of the second degree.

Previously, on June 17, 2020, Bishara was initially charged by the Bayonne Police Department with Creating a Risk of Death or Injury While Eluding in violation of N.J.S.A 2C:29-2b, a crime of the second degree. The Bayonne Police Department had also issued the following motor vehicle summonses: (1)Reckless driving in violation of 39:4-96; (2) Improper passing in violation of 39:4-85; (3) Failure to observe a traffic signal in violation of 39:4-81; (4) Unlicensed driver in violation of 39:3-10; (5) Unregistered vehicle in violation of 39:3-4; and (6) Failure to exhibit insurance in violation of 39:3-29(c).

On Tuesday, June 16, 2020, at approximately 7:45 p.m., Bayonne Police observed a motorcycle traveling at a high rate of speed while passing other vehicles outside the single northbound lane of traffic on Broadway near 49th Street. Police activated their lights and attempted to stop the driver, who fled from police and ultimately crashed into a Honda CR-V at 52nd and Broadway.

The driver of the Honda, a 26-year-old Bayonne woman – sustained injuries during the collision and was transported to the Bayonne Medical Center for treatment. The motorcyclist – later identified as Bishara – sustained serious leg injuries and was transported to the Jersey City Medical Center for treatment.

Prosecutor Suarez credited the Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit and the Bayonne Police Department for the investigation and arrest.

The above charges are merely accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty. R.P.C.3.6(b)(6).
