JERSEY CITY MAN ARRESTED FOR MONDAY’S FORREST AVENUE MURDER

Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez has released the following information:

On Wednesday, September 21, 2016, David Cooper, age 26, of Jersey City was arrested by Homicide Detectives of the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office for the murder of Ahmin Colclough, age 20, of Jersey City.

 Cooper has been charged with Murder in violation of N.J.S. 2C:11-3a(1)(2), a first degree crime; Possession of a Firearm for an Unlawful Purpose in violation of N.J.S. 2C:39-4a(1), a second degree crime; and, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm in violation of N.J.S. 2C:39-5b(1), a second degree crime. Bail has been set at $1,000,000 cash or bond.

 Prosecutor Suarez credited the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit and the Jersey City Police Department for the arrest.

On Monday, September 19, 2016, at approximately 10 a.m., Jersey City Police Officers were dispatched to the area of Forrest Avenue in Jersey City on a report of shots fired. Officers found one male victim, later identified as Ahmin Colclough, in the driveway of 391 Forrest Avenue with an apparent gunshot wound to his upper body.

Colclough was treated at the scene and then transported to Jersey City Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead at approximately 10:45 a.m.

The above charges are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty. R.P.C.3.6(b)(6).
