GUTTENBERG POLICE OFFICER FORFEITS PUBLIC EMPLOYMENT FOLLOWING THEFT CHARGE

Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez has released the following information:

A Guttenberg Police Officer has forfeited his position in law enforcement following an allegation he stole money from an acquaintance while off-duty.

Anthony Cosma, 32, was charged with one count of Theft by Deception in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:20-4a, a crime of the third degree on Tuesday, February 28, 2023. Cosma waived his right to an indictment on Thursday, March 9, 2023. He will be permitted to enter into the Pretrial Intervention Program and has forfeited his right to current and future public employment.

An investigation by the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Internal Affairs Unit determined Cosma received over $500 from an acquaintance to be used for a business investment and instead used the money for different purposes.
