FATAL SHOOTING IN AUDUBON PARK

Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez released the following information:

On May 26, 2016, at approximately 11:00 p.m., Jersey City Police were dispatched to the area of Stegman Street and Bergen Avenue in Jersey City on a report of a shooting. Upon arrival, police found the victim, Tyrell Franklin, age 28, of Jersey City, in Audubon Park with an apparent gunshot wound to the upper part of his body. Franklin was pronounced dead at the scene at approximately 11:25 p.m. Police also discovered a second individual on Stegman Street, who has been identified as Tavon Rush, age 33, also of Jersey City, with multiple gunshot wounds to his mid and upper body. Rush was transported to the Jersey City Medical Center, where he remains in critical condition.

Thus far, no arrests have been made in connection with the shootings. The Prosecutor’s Homicide Unit is actively investigating the case with assistance from the Jersey City Police Department.
