DRIVER CHARGED IN NORTH BERGEN CRASH THAT INJURED PEDESTRIAN
Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez has released the following information:
On Tuesday, October 3, 2023, members of the Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit arrested a man in connection with a crash that seriously injured a pedestrian in North Bergen on Friday, September 8, 2023.
Steve Inoa, age 40, of North Bergen, is charged with Assault by Auto while Driving While Intoxicated and Causing Serious Bodily Injury in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:12-1c(2), a third-degree crime. He was arrested at the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office in Secaucus and released pending his first court appearance, which is tentatively scheduled for Thursday, October 26, 2023.
On September 8, 2023, shortly after 3:30 a.m., the North Bergen Police Department was notified of a collision in the area of Bergenline Avenue and 92nd Street. Upon arrival, officers found that a Honda Pilot, operated by Steve Inoa, 40, of North Bergen, struck a pedestrian on the eastside sidewalk of the intersection. The pedestrian, a 65-year-old woman, was transported by Emergency Medical Services to Hackensack University Medical Center.
Prosecutor Suarez credited the Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit and the North Bergen Police Department with the investigation and arrest. The above charge is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty. R.P.C.3.6(b)(6)
