COLLISION UNIT INVESTIGATING FATAL HIT-AND-RUN COLLISION IN JERSEY CITY

Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez has released the following information:

The Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit and the Jersey City Police Department are investigating a fatal hit-and-run collision that occurred on Sunday, March 5, 2023.

At approximately 12:31 a.m., the Jersey City Police Department was notified of a pedestrian struck in the area of Stegman Avenue and Garfield Avenue. Responding officers located a victim – later identified as a Ralph Haynes, 55, of Jersey City – with life-threatening injuries. The striking vehicle did not remain at the scene. He was transported by Emergency Medical Services to Jersey City Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 3:38 p.m.

The Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit and the Jersey City Police Department are actively investigating this case.
