Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez Announces Arrest Related to Lexington Ave. Homicide

On Friday, March 11, 2016, Jeffery T. Harley, age 50, of Lexington Avenue in Jersey City, was charged with the Murder of Lucila Cardenas Viejo, age 81. Bail has been set in the amount of two million dollars, cash only. The victim’s body was discovered in the morning hours of February 7, 2016, on the floor of her apartment at 64A Lexington Avenue, having suffered multiple blunt and sharp force injuries. A post mortem examination determined the manner of death to be Homicide. Harley is charged by way of complaint with the following counts: Murder; Felony Murder during the commission of a Robbery; Robbery; Armed Robbery; Felony Murder during the commission of Burglary; Burglary; Armed Burglary; Possession of a Weapon for Unlawful Purpose that being a knife; and Unlawful Possession of a Weapon that being knife. Prosecutor Suarez commended the efforts of the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the Jersey City Police Department for their respective roles in the investigation, as well as the community at large for their assistance.

The above charges are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty. R.P.C. 3.6(b)(6).
