17-Year-Old Fatally Shot; Jersey City Man Arrested


17-YEAR-OLD FATALLY SHOT; JERSEY CITY MAN ARRESTED

Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez has released the following information:

On September 12, 2016, at approximately 1:30 a.m., Jersey City Police were dispatched to an area near Halladay Street in Jersey City on a report of shots fired. Police officers found an unresponsive male victim nearby on the sidewalk in the vicinity of 378 Van Horne Street with a gunshot wound to his upper body. The victim has been identified as Anthony Rios, age 17, of Jersey City. Rios was pronounced dead at the scene at approximately 1:40 a.m.

A medical examiner has determined the cause of death to be a gunshot wound and the manner of death was homicide.

Jacob Pommerehn, age 18, of Jersey City was placed under arrest shortly after the incident. Pommerehn has been charged with aggravated manslaughter in violation of N.J.S. 2C:11-4(A)(1) and two counts of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm in violation of N.J.S. 2C:39-5B. Bail has been set at $250,000 cash or bond.

The above charges are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty. R.P.C.3.6(b)(6).
