WOMAN KILLED IN JERSEY CITY HIT-AND-RUN; DRIVER SOUGHT

Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez released the following information:

On Wednesday, January 17, 2018, at approximately 6:29 a.m., the Jersey City Police Department received a report of a pedestrian struck by a motor vehicle, in the westbound lane of Grand Avenue, near the intersection of Johnston Avenue. Upon arrival, Jersey City Police Officers found a female victim lying on the ground at that location. The male driver of a dark sport-utility vehicle remained at the scene, after noticing that he had inadvertently driven his vehicle over the victim.

The victim has been identified as Theresa Florence, age 63, of Jersey City. She was transported to Jersey City Medical Center by Emergency Medical Services where she was treated for her injuries. Florence was pronounced dead at approximately 8:30 a.m.

During the preliminary investigation, it was discovered that the victim was a pedestrian and before being run over by the aforementioned dark sport-utility vehicle, she may have been struck by another vehicle identified as a light or silver-colored, 4-door, older-modeled sedan. The sedan continued westbound along Grand Avenue after striking Florence. This is a heavily traveled roadway during the time of the collision and investigators are asking the public for assistance.

Anyone with information about the collision is asked to contact law enforcement at 201-915-1345 or to leave an anonymous tip on the Hudson County Prosecutor’s official website at: http://www.hudsoncountyprosecutorsofficenj.org/homicide-tip/ . All information will be kept confidential.
