JERSEY CITY WOMAN CHARGED WITH HINDERING HOBOKEN HOMICIDE INVESTIGATION

Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez has released the following information:

A Jersey City woman has been charged with providing false information to law enforcement to prevent the arrest of Deon Williams, who has been charged in connection with the fatal shooting of Christopher Garcia in Hoboken.

Demetria Huggins, 38, is charged with Hindering Apprehension in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:29-3a(1), a crime of the third degree. She was arrested on Saturday, November 19, 2022 at a hotel on International Boulevard in Elizabeth and transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility pending her first court appearance. Deon Williams, 25, of Jersey City, was arrested and charged with Murder in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:11-3a, a crime of the first degree, Unlawful Possession of Weapon in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:39-5b(1), a crime of the second degree, and Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:39-4a(1), a crime of the second degree.

On Sunday, September 25, 2022, at approximately 3:25 a.m., the Hoboken Police Department received a 911 call reporting a shooting in the area of 560 Marshall Drive. Upon arrival, responding officers located a male victim – later identified as Christopher Garcia, 28, of Hoboken – with an apparent gunshot wound to the torso. He was transported by Emergency Medical Services to Jersey City Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at approximately 3:56 a.m.

The above charges are merely accusations and the defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty. R.P.C.3.6(b)(6)
