Willingboro Man Arrested in Fatal Shooting in Hoboken Apartment


22-YEAR-OLD WILLINGBORO MAN ARRESTED AND CHARGED IN FATAL SHOOTING IN GRAND STREET APARTMENT IN HOBOKEN

Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez has released the following information:

The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit has arrested and charged a 22-year-old Willingboro, New Jersey man with the fatal shooting of a 26-year-old man in a Hoboken apartment on August 7, 2020.

Tahjae McDougald, age 22, of Willingboro, was arrested at approximately 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, August 20, 2020, at the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office in Jersey City when he turned himself in with his attorney.

McDougald has been charged with Murder in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:11-3A(1)(2), a first-degree crime; Possession of a Weapon (firearm) for an Unlawful Purpose in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:39-4A(1), a second-degree crime; and Unlawful Possession of a Weapon (firearm) in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:39-5B(1), a second-degree crime.

On Friday, August 7, 2020, just after 10:30 p.m., members of the Hoboken Police Department responded to an apartment at 300 Grand Street on a report of deceased male.

Responding officers found the victim, a 26-year-old Willingboro, N.J. man, later identified as Marquise Davis, with apparent gunshot wound(s) to the upper body. The victim was pronounced deceased at 10:52 p.m. at the scene of the shooting. The Regional Medical Examiner’s Office determined the cause of death to be gunshot wounds to the abdomen and the manner of death to be homicide.

Prosecutor Suarez credited the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit, the Hoboken Police Department, the Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office, the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office, the Willingboro Police Department, the Pemberton Police Department, the Westampton Police Department, and the Philadelphia Police Department for the investigation and arrest.

The above charges are merely accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty. R.P.C.3.6(b)(6).
