WEST NEW YORK MOTOR VEHICLE COLLISION LEAVES ONE IN CRITICAL CONDITION, SEVERAL WITH NON-LIFE-THREATENING INJURIES

Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez has released the following information:

On Tuesday, June 18, 2019, shortly after 12:30 a.m., West New York Police Officers responded to the intersection of 60th Street and Jefferson Street in West New York on a report of a motor vehicle collision. Upon arrival, the responding officers found that two vehicles were involved in a collision.

The first vehicle, a 2002 Acura TL, was operated by Fernando Batista, age 24, of North Bergen. Batista was transported by Emergency Medical Services to Palisades Medical Center where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries. This vehicle also contained two passengers, a 20-year-old female from Queens, New York, who sustained life-threatening injuries, and a 22-year-old male from North Bergen who sustained non-life-threatening injuries. Both passengers were transported by EMS to Jersey City Medical Center. The female passenger is currently being treated for multiple injuries and remains in critical condition.

The second vehicle was a 2004 Infiniti G35 operated by Richard Henao, age 26, of West New York. Henao was transported by EMS to Palisades Medical Center where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries. This vehicle contained a single passenger, a 26-year-old male from Clifton, who refused medical treatment at the scene of the collision.

The initial investigation by the Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit and the West New York Police Department determined that the Infiniti was traveling north on Jefferson Street and the Acura was traveling west on 60th Street before they collided. The events surrounding the collision remain under investigation and no charges have been filed at this time.

The Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit is actively investigating this case with assistance from the West New York Police Department.
