UNION CITY MAN SENTENCED TO 12 YEARS IN STATE PRISON 

Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez has released the following information:

On Friday, January 25, 2018, Superior Court Judge Mitzy Galis-Menendez sentenced a 49-year-old Union City man to 12 years in state prison for aggravated sexual assault. The man pleaded guilty to aggravated sexual assault on October 4, 2017, when he stated that he committed an act of sexual penetration upon the victim who was less than 13-years-old at the time.

The Union City man was sentenced to 12 years in State Prison and his sentence is subject to the No Early Release Act which stipulates that he will have to serve a minimum of 10 years, 2 months before being eligible for parole. After serving his sentence, the defendant is subject to parole supervision for life and Megan’s Law registration.

The case was investigated by the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit. The State was represented by Assistant Prosecutor Karen Kazanchy of the SVU.
