U.S. Airman Charged with Sex Crimes Involving Child

U.S. AIRMAN CHARGED WITH SEX CRIMES INVOLVING 9-YEAR-OLD DAUGHTER

Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez has released the following information:

On Tuesday, February 8, 2022, members of the United States Marshals Service Arizona Violent Offender Task Force, in conjunction with the New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force, arrested a 30-year-old Jersey City man on sex crime charges involving his 9-year-old daughter. At least one of the crimes occurred while the defendant was stationed in Dubai as a member of the U.S. Air Force and involved the transmission of explicit images and videos while the daughter was in Jersey City.

The name of the defendant is being withheld to protect the identity of the victim.

He is charged with Aggravated Sexual Assault in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:14-2a(1), a crime of the first degree, Endangering the Welfare of a Child in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:24-4b(3), a crime of the first degree, two counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:24-4a(1), crimes of the second degree, Sexual Assault by Contact in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:14-2b, a crime of the second degree, and Attempted Aggravated Sexual Assault in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:5-1A(1) and 2C:14-2a(1), a crime of the second degree.

The victim was between the ages of 8 and 9 at the time the crimes occurred. The defendant remains in custody in Arizona while awaiting extradition to New Jersey.

Prosecutor Suarez credited the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit and the United States Marshals Service with the investigation and arrest.

The above charges are merely accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty. R.P.C.3.6(b)(6)
