TWO FATALITIES, THREE MORE HOSPITALIZED IN JERSEY CITY INCIDENT

Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez has released the following information:

On July 30, 2017, at approximately 4:45 a.m., Jersey City Police Officers responded to 2 2nd Street in Jersey City on a call for assistance. Upon arrival, officers were met by Emergency Medical Services who reported finding five unconscious males at that location.

The responding Police Officers found two of the five unconscious individuals were dead of apparent drug overdoses. The deceased have been identified as Anoj Malhotra, age 33, and Rishi Patel, age 32. Both were pronounced dead at the scene at approximately 5:25 a.m. The cause and manner of their deaths are pending an investigation by the Regional Medical Examiner’s Office.

The additional three male victims were transported to Jersey City Medical Center by EMS.

Although the investigation is ongoing, this appears to be an isolated incident and there should be no concern to the public.

The Prosecutor’s Homicide Unit is investigating this case with the assistance of the Jersey City Police Department. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Office of the Hudson County Prosecutor at 201-915-1345 or to leave an anonymous tip on the Hudson County Prosecutor’s official website at: http://www.hudsoncountyprosecutorsofficenj.org/homicide-tip/ .
