THREE ARRESTED AND CHARGED WITH MURDER IN CONNECTION TO SEPTEMBER HOMICIDE IN JERSEY CITY

Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez has released the following information:

On April 1, 2019, detectives from the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Task Force charged two adult males and one juvenile male in connection with the murder of 17-year-old Jayden Fondeur of Jersey City which occurred in September 2018.

Following an investigation by the Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Task Force and the Jersey City Police Department, charges were filed against Isaiah Huggins, age 19, Rayquan Carmichael, age 18, and a 16-year-old juvenile. The two adult defendants and the juvenile are from Jersey City.

On April 2, 2019, Huggins was arrested in Essex County where he is currently in custody in the Essex County Jail on unrelated charges. On April 1, 2019, Carmichael and the juvenile defendant were arrested without incident in Jersey City.

The two adult defendants have each been charged with Murder in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:11-3; Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:39-4; and Unlawful Possession of a Weapon in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:39-5. The juvenile was charged with Murder in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:11-3; Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:39-4; and Unlawful Possession of a Weapon in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:39-5.

Prosecutor Suarez credited the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit with the investigation and the arrest, as well as the Jersey City Police Department for assisting with the investigation.

On Tuesday, September 18, 2018, at approximately 6:25 p.m., the Jersey City Police Department received a report of gunshots in the area of Old Bergen Road and Pamrapo Avenue in Jersey City. Upon arrival, Jersey City Police Officers found Jayden Fondeur, age 17, of Jersey City, in front 23 Old Bergen Road with gunshot wound(s) to his head/neck. He was found in an apparent lifeless condition. Fondeur was pronounced dead at approximately 6:55 p.m. and the Regional Medical Examiner’s Office determined the cause of death to be gunshot wound of the neck and the manner of death to be homicide.

The above charges are merely accusations, and the defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty. R.P.C.3.6(b)(6).
