JUVENILE CHARGED WITH MURDER IN CONNECTION WITH SHOOTING DEATH OF JERSEY CITY TEEN

Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez has released the following information:

A 17-year-old has been charged in connection with the death of Devin Bryant, 15, who was fatally shot in Jersey City on Saturday, February 12, 2022.

The teen was arrested by members of the United States Marshals Service New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force with the assistance of the New York City Police Department and the New York City Sheriff’s Office on Sutphin Boulevard in Jamaica, Queens, on Wednesday, March 30, 2022. He is charged as a juvenile with Murder in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:11-3a(1), Aggravated Assault in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:12-1b(1), Unlawful Possession of a Weapon in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:39-5b(1), and Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:39-4a(1). He is currently in custody in New York pending extradition and his first court appearance.

Juvenile matters are confidential and no additional information can be released at this time.

On Saturday, February 12, 2022, shortly after 8:20 p.m., the Jersey City Police Department responded to the area of 112 Myrtle Avenue on a report of shots fired. Responding officers found a male victim, later identified as Devin Bryant, 15, of Jersey City, with an apparent gunshot wound
to the torso. He was transported by Emergency Medical Services to Jersey City Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at approximately 9:10 p.m.

The above charges are merely accusations and the juvenile is presumed innocent until proven guilty. R.P.C.3.6(b)(6)
