SWAT Team Arrests Murder Suspect, Recovers Guns and Drugs

HUDSON COUNTY SWAT TEAM ARRESTS NEW YORK MURDER SUSPECT, RECOVERS GUNS, DRUGS, AND HIGH CAPACITY MAGAZINES

Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez has released the following information:

On Saturday, February 5, 2022, members of the Hudson County Regional SWAT Team, the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Major Case Unit, the Bayonne Police Department, and the United States Marshals Service assisted the New York City Police Department in executing a search warrant pertaining to a homicide that occurred in New York City last month.

At approximately 6 a.m., a court ordered search warrant was executed at 957 Broadway in Bayonne. During the investigation, law enforcement recovered two handguns, one of which was reported stolen out of North Carolina, extended magazines, hollow point ammunition, a large quantity of marijuana, and over $3,000 in cash.

Kegwin Clarke, 26, of Bayonne, was arrested without incident by the Hudson County Regional SWAT Team and charged with two counts of Possession of a Firearm While in the Course of Committing a CDS Offense in violation of N.J.S.A 2C:39-4.1a, Receiving Stolen Property in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:20-7a, two counts of Prohibited Weapons and Devices in violation of 2C:39-3j, Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance in violation of N.J.S.A 2C:35-10a (3)(b) and Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance with the Intent to Distribute in violation of N.J.S.A 2C:35-5b(11)(b).

Clarke was wanted in connection to a Manhattan murder investigation. He was charged by the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office as a Fugitive from Justice in violation of N.J.S.A. 2A:160-10¬¬ and was charged with Murder by the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office. Clarke was remanded to the Hudson County Correctional Facility pending his first court appearance and will await extradition to New York.

Prosecutor Suarez credited the Hudson County Regional SWAT Team, the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Major Case Unit, the Bayonne Police Department, the United States Marshals Service, the New York City Police Department and the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office with the investigation and arrest.

The above charges are merely accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty. R.P.C.3.6(b)(6).
