SUSPECT APPREHENDED IN WEST NEW YORK HOMICIDE
Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez has released the following information:
On September 22, 2016, Thomas Longobardi, age 50, was arrested for the murder of Randall Goya. Longobardi was stopped by officers of the Bayonne Police Department in the area of 23rd Street and Broadway after an alert was issued by the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Squad citing Longobardi as a person of interest in the investigation.
Longobardi, whose last known address was in Bayonne, was placed under arrest by Hudson County Prosecutor Homicide Detectives and charged with Murder in violation of N.J.S. 2C:11-3a(1)(2), a first degree crime; Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose in violation of N.J.S. 2C:39-4d, a third degree crime; and, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon in violation of N.J.S. 2C:39-5d, a fourth degree crime.
Longobardi was processed Thursday night on his arrest warrant and then transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility. His bail has been set at $1,000,000 cash only.
On September 21, 2016, at approximately 6:30 p.m., West New York Police Officers were dispatched to 5608 Palisade Avenue in West New York after receiving a call from a building superintendent. The superintendent reported that he noticed something suspicious and then found a dead male in an apartment.
Upon arrival, officers found the lifeless body of Randall Goya, age 57, of West New York, who was pronounced at approximately 7:15 p.m. at the scene. Goya resided in the apartment where he was found dead.
The Regional Medical Examiner’s Office has determined that the cause of death is multiple injuries to the upper body and the manner of death is homicide.
Prosecutor Suarez credited the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit, the West New York Police Department, and also the Bayonne Police Department who assisted in locating Longobardi.
The above charges are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty. R.P.C.3.6(b)(6).
