Serious Kearny Collision Under Investigation


HUDSON COUNTY REGIONAL COLLISION INVESTIGATION UNIT INVESTIGATING SERIOUS COLLISION IN KEARNY THAT CRITICALLY INJURED TWO PEOPLE

Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez has released the following information:

The Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit is investigating a serious collision in Kearny in which a 19-year-old woman and a 20-year-old man sustained life-threatening injuries early Tuesday morning.

Members of the Kearny Police Department responded to the area of Route 7 and the Harrison Avenue split at approximately 4:08 a.m. on Tuesday, October 19, 2021, on reports of a vehicle that crashed into a disabled tractor trailer. All four occupants of the car were transported to University Hospital in Newark.  The 21-year-old driver, a Garfield man, and a second rear passenger, a 20-year-old male, are listed in stable condition.

According to the initial investigation, the driver – who was traveling west on Route 7 in a 2011 Mitsubishi Lancer – collided with a tractor trailer that was disabled on the side of the road.

The Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit and Kearny Police Department are actively investigating this incident.
