DEFENDANT RAND MARCH PLEADS GUILTY TO AGGRAVATED MANSLAUGHTER IN DEATH OF KIMBERLEY HASTON

Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez has released the following information:

On April 8, 2021, Rand March, age 66, of Jersey City, pleaded guilty to one count of first-degree aggravated manslaughter related to the death of his girlfriend, Kimberly Haston which occurred on November 23, 2020 in Jersey City. March admitted in court to using a knife to cause the death of Haston. The State is recommending a sentence of 25 years in New Jersey state prison subject to the No Early Release Act.

On November 23, 2020, at approximately 1:45 p.m., members of the Jersey City Police Department Emergency Services Unit responded to an apartment on Court House Place to perform a welfare check on a senior resident. When officers gained access to the apartment, they found a lifeless Kimberley Haston, age 67, on the floor with a laceration to her neck. Haston was transported to Jersey City Medical Center where she was pronounced dead at 3:52 p.m.

The Regional Medical Examiner’s Office determined the Cause of death to be sharp force injury of neck and the Manner of death to be homicide.

March, who shared the apartment with Haston and was in the apartment at the time, was taken into custody by JCPD police officers. He was later arrested and charged by members of the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit.

Sentencing in this case has been scheduled for June 16, 2021 before the Honorable Paul DePascale, J.S.C., who accepted the guilty plea earlier today.
