PUBLIC’S ASSISTANCE SOUGHT IN DEATH OF JERSEY CITY BUSINESS OWNER

Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez released the following information:

The Prosecutor’s Homicide Unit is requesting the public’s assistance in locating two individuals connected to an armed robbery resulting in the death of a longtime Jersey City businessman.

On April 1, 2017, Irving J. Catlow Jr., age 74, of Randolph, was pronounced dead at Morristown Medical Center. Catlow succumbed to injuries he sustained when he was attacked during an armed robbery of his Jersey City furniture delivery business in November 2016.

The medical examiner determined the cause of Catlow’s death to be Complications of Blunt Force Injuries to the Head and the manner of his death to be Homicide.

On November 4, 2016, at approximately 8:30 a.m., Jersey City Police Officers were dispatched to 704 Summit Avenue in Jersey City on a report of an armed robbery. Upon arrival, police found a conscious male victim with multiple wounds to his face and head. The victim, identified as Catlow, was transported by emergency medical services to Jersey City Medical Center.

Catlow was treated and released from JCMC. He then sought additional treatment for his injuries at Morristown Medical Center where he remained until his death.

The initial investigation by the Jersey City Police Department revealed that two men entered an office area at Catlow Movers Delivery Service between 8:10 and 8:30 a.m. on November 4, 2016. The victim described one of the suspects as a short black male and the other as a tall black male and one of the suspects was armed with a chrome handgun and $400 was taken from the victim’s wallet, along with all of his keys. Catlow was struck in the head and face before the suspects fled in an unknown direction.

Upon the death of the victim, the case was turned over to the Prosecutor’s Homicide Unit which is actively investigating the case with assistance from the Jersey City Police Department.
