Prosecutor’s Homicide Unit Makes Arrests In J.C. Homicide

PROSECUTOR’S HOMICIDE UNIT MAKES ARRESTS IN JERSEY CITY HOMICIDE

Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez has released the following information:

On Thursday, May 10, 2018, Kai Robinson, age 20, of Jersey City, was arrested in Newark without incident by members of the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit in connection with the death of Kamal McCord on May 2, 2018.

Robinson has been charged with Murder in violation of N.J.S. 2C:11-3, a first-degree crime; Attempted Murder in violation of N.J.S. 2C:11-3 and 2C:5-1, a first-degree crime; Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose in violation of N.J.S. 2C:39-4, a second-degree crime; two counts of Unlawful Possession of a Weapon in violation of N.J.S. 2C:39-5, second-degree crimes; and Theft in violation of N.J.S. 2C:20-7, a third-degree crime.

Robinson made his first appearance today in Criminal Justice Reform Court in the Hudson County Administration Building located at 595 Newark Avenue in Jersey City. His next court appearance will be a detention hearing scheduled for May 16, 2018.

Additionally, Lasaun Rose, age 24, of Jersey City, was arrested without incident on May 4, 2018, in connect this incident. Rose has been charged with Aggravated Assault in violation of N.J.S. 2C:12-1, a second-degree crime; Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose in violation of N.J.S. 2C:39-4, a second-degree crime; and Unlawful Possession of a Weapon in violation of N.J.S. 2C:39-5, a second-degree crime. Rose made his first appearance in Criminal Justice Reform Court on May 4.

Prosecutor Suarez credited the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit with the arrests and the Jersey City Police Department for their assistance in the investigation. Additional arrests are pending.

On Wednesday, May 2, 2018, at approximately 9:50 p.m., the Jersey City Police Department received a report of a male shot on Merseles Court in Jersey City. Responding Police Officers found a male victim inside a residence at 21 Merseles Court.

The victim was later identified as McCord, age 19, of Jersey City. He was found in a lifeless condition with an apparent gunshot wound to his torso. McCord was pronounced dead at the scene at approximately 10:00 p.m.

The Regional Medical Examiner’s Office has declared the Cause of Death to be a gunshot wound to the chest and the Manner of Death to be Homicide.

Responding Police Officers also found a female victim outside of a residence in the area of 17 Merseles Court. The 21-year-old female victim had an apparent gunshot wound to one of her extremities. The victim was transported by Emergency Medical Services to Jersey City Medical Center where she was treated for non-life threatening injuries.

The Prosecutor’s Homicide Unit is actively investigating this case with assistance from the Jersey City Police Department.
