PEDESTRIAN DIES AFTER HIT-AND-RUN IN JERSEY CITY
Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez has released the following information:
On Saturday, December 22, 2018, at approximately 5:30 p.m., the Jersey City Police Department received a 911 call reporting a man lying in the roadway on Monmouth Street in the area between 10th and 12th streets. Upon arrival, responding Police Officers observed an unresponsive male with apparent injuries consistent with being struck by a vehicle. There were also vehicle parts found at the scene.
The man, who was later identified as Cory Nettles, age 44, of Jersey City, was transported by Emergency Medical Services to Jersey City Medical Center where he was pronounced dead shortly after 6:30 p.m. The Regional Medical Examiner’s Office has determined that the Cause of death is blunt force trauma consistent with a vehicle strike. The Manner of death is pending further investigation.
The initial investigation by the Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit and the Jersey City Police Department determined that Nettles was a pedestrian in the roadway on Monmouth Street when he was struck by an unidentified vehicle that left the scene.
The Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit is actively investigating this case with assistance from the Jersey City Police Department.
