JERSEY CITY POLICE OFFICER CHARGED WITH HINDERING ARREST OF ATTEMPTED MURDER SUSPECT
Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez has released the following information:
On Wednesday, March 1, 2023, a Jersey City Police Officer was arrested by the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Internal Affairs Unit for knowingly hindering the apprehension of an individual wanted in connection with a Jersey City shooting.
Page Rivera, 34, is charged with one count of Hindering in violation N.J.S.A. 2C:29-3a(1), a crime of the third degree. She was arrested at the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office in Jersey City and released pending her first court appearance on Wednesday, March 15, 2023.
On Friday, February 17, 2023, members of the Jersey City Police Department’s Cease Fire Unit and the United States Marshals Service New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force arrested a man wanted in connection with a shooting that occurred in Jersey City on Friday, February 10, 2022. During the course of the investigation, it was determined the individual – who was wanted on charges that include Attempted Murder and various weapons offenses – was arrested at Rivera’s residence. Rivera, through her employment at the Jersey City Police Department, was aware of the arrest warrant that was issued for the individual she allowed to stay at her residence.
Prosecutor Suarez credited the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Internal Affairs Unit and the Jersey City Police Department Internal Affairs Unit with the investigation and arrest. The above charges are merely accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty. R.P.C.3.6(b)(6).
