NARCOTICS TASK FORCE ARRESTS NORTH BERGEN MAN

Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez has released the following information:

On July 31, 2018, following a short investigation, members of the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Narcotics Task Force arrested a North Bergen man for possession with the intent to distribute crystal methamphetamine.

Christopher Durkin, age 55, of North Bergen, was arrested on charges including possession of crystal methamphetamine with the intent to distribute and possession of crystal methamphetamine within 500 feet of public property and 1000 feet of school property. Durkin was arrested without incident at the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office in Jersey City after a search of his vehicle and residence led to the recovery of more than 20 ounces of crystal methamphetamine and approximately $3,500 in U.S. currency. The street value of the total quantity of crystal methamphetamine seized is approximately $59,000.

Durkin was charged with the following: two counts of Possession with Intent to Distribute a Controlled Dangerous Substance (Crystal Methamphetamine) in violation of N.J.S. 2C:35-5a and 2C:25-5b; one count of Conspiracy to Distribute a Controlled Dangerous Substance (Crystal Methamphetamine) in violation of N.J.S. 2C:5-2a and 2C:35-5b; one count of Possession with Intent to Distribute a Controlled Dangerous Substance (Crystal Methamphetamine) while within 500 feet of Public Property in violation of N.J.S. 2C:35-7.1; one count of Possession with Intent to Distribute a Controlled Dangerous Substance (Crystal Methamphetamine) while within 1,000 feet of School Property in violation of N.J.S. 2C:35-7; and one count of Possession with Intent to use Drug Paraphernalia in violation of N.J.S. 2C:36-2.

Prosecutor Esther Suarez credited the Hudson County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Unit for assisting with the arrest.

The above charges are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty. R.P.C.3.6(b)(6).
