MAN WANTED ON MURDER CHARGES ARRESTED IN JERSEY CITY

Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez has released the following information:

On September 14, 2018, following a preliminary investigation by the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit, a Complaint Warrant was issued for the arrest of Jahmir Thomas on a charge of murder and other related offenses in connection with the death of Eric Crocker, age 23, of Bayonne which occurred earlier this month.

On Saturday, September 15, 2018, at approximately 12:05 a.m., members of the Jersey City Police Department Street Crimes Unit arrested Thomas, age 20, of Jersey City, without incident in the area of Eastern Parkway in Jersey City.

Thomas has been charged with Murder in violation of N.J.S. 2C:11-3; Conspiracy to Commit Murder in violation of N.J.S. 2C: 5-2 and 2C:11-3; Possession of a Weapon (Handgun) for an Unlawful Purpose in violation of N.J.S. 2C:39-4; and Unlawful Possession of a Weapon (Handgun) in violation of N.J.S. 2C:39-5.

Thomas was processed and then transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility in Kearny. He is scheduled to make his first appearance on these charges at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 19, 2018, in the Hudson County Administration Building located at 595 Newark Avenue, Jersey City. A motion for a detention hearing has been filed by the State.

Prosecutor Suarez credited the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit and the Jersey City Police Department with the arrest.

On Tuesday, September 4, 2018, at approximately 5:55 p.m., the Jersey City Police Department received a report of gunshots in the area of Lembeck and Ocean avenues in Jersey City. Upon arrival, responding Police Officers found a male victim on Lembeck Avenue with multiple gunshot wounds to his torso.

The victim was later identified as Crocker, age 23, of Bayonne. He was pronounced dead at the Jersey City Medical Center at approximately 6:30 p.m. The Regional Medical Examiner’s Office determined the Cause of death to be multiple gunshot wounds to the torso and the Manner of death to be Homicide.

The Prosecutor’s Homicide Unit continues to actively investigate this case with assistance from the Jersey City Police Department.
