Man Charged with Sex Crime in West New York

MAN CHARGED WITH SEX CRIME ON WOMAN IN WEST NEW YORK

Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez has released the following information:

On Sunday, July 10, 2022, members of the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit arrested Rogelio Rendon-Mejia, 42, of Hammonton, for committing a sex crime on a woman in West New York. The crime occurred in the early morning hours of July 10, 2022, following a gathering in an apartment on 51st Street. The victim was not known to Rendon-Mejia and her 7-year-old son was present at the time the crime occurred.

Rendon-Mejia is charged with Aggravated Criminal Sexual Contact in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:14-3a, a crime of the third degree, and Endangering the Welfare of a Child in violation of 2C:24-4a(1), a crime of the third degree. He was arrested at the West New York Police Headquarters and transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility pending his first court appearance.

Prosecutor Suarez credited the Special Victims Unit and West New York Police Department with the investigation and arrest.
