MAN CHARGED IN HIT-AND-RUN THAT SERIOUSLY INJURED PEDESTRIAN

Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez has released the following information:

On Wednesday, February 14, 2024, members of the Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit arrested a 42-year-old man in connection with a hit-and-run that seriously injured a pedestrian in Jersey City on December 6, 2022.

Brandon Espinosa, of Jersey City, is charged with Knowingly Leaving the Scene of a Motor Vehicle Collision Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:12-1.1, a crime of the third degree, and Endangering an Injured Victim in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:12-1.2a, a crime of the third degree. He was arrested at the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office in Secaucus and released pending his first court appearance, which is tentatively scheduled for Thursday, March 7, 2024.

On Tuesday, December 6, 2022, at approximately 4:35 p.m., the Jersey City Police Department was notified of a pedestrian struck at the Griffith Street and Sherman Avenue intersection. Responding officers found a 36-year-old Jersey City man with serious injuries and he was transported to Jersey City Medical Center for treatment. The striking vehicle did not remain at the scene and was recovered in the days following the collision.

The above charges are merely accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty. R.P.C.3.6(b)(6)
