MAN CHARGED IN HIT-AND-RUN THAT SERIOUSLY INJURED PEDESTRIAN IN JERSEY CITY

Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez has released the following information:

On Friday, January 26, 2024, members of the Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit arrested a 45-year-old man in connection with a hit-and-run collision that seriously injured a pedestrian in Jersey City on December 20, 2023.

Marvin Flores Ortiz, of Union City, is charged with Knowingly Leaving the Scene of a Motor Vehicle Collision Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:12-1.1, a crime of the third degree, and Endangering an Injured Victim in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:12-1.2a, a crime of the third degree. He was arrested at the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office in Secaucus and released pending his first court appearance, which is tentatively scheduled for Tuesday, February 13, 2024.

On Wednesday, December 20, 2023, shortly after 11 a.m., the Jersey City Police Department was notified of a pedestrian stuck in the area of Central Avenue and Ferry Street. Responding officers located a 71-year-old old male victim with serious injuries. He was transported by Emergency Medical Services to Jersey City Medical Center. The striking vehicle did not remain at the scene.

The above charges are merely accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty. R.P.C.3.6(b)(6).
