MAN ARRESTED WITH HANDGUN AS PART OF NARCOTICS INVESTIGATION IN NORTH BERGEN

Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez has released the following information:

On Thursday, October 6, 2022, the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Gang Task Force recovered a firearm and arrested a 31-year-old man as part of a narcotics investigation in North Bergen.

Ramon Lopez-Arias, of West New York, is charged with Unlawful Possession of a Weapon in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:39-5b, a crime of the second degree, Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance with the Intent to Distribute (Cocaine) in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:35-5b(3), a crime of the third degree, and Possession of a Weapon While Committing a CDS Offense in violation of N.J.S.A 2C:39-4.1a, a crime of the second degree.

The Gang Task Force conducted a motor vehicle stop in the area of 2810 Paterson Plank Road after receiving information that Lopez-Arias was in possession of a weapon and narcotics. During a court authorized search of the vehicle Lopez-Arias was operating, a handgun, suspected cocaine, and 129 rounds of ammunition were recovered.

The above charges are merely accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty. R.P.C.3.6(b)(6).
