37-YEAR-OLD MAN ARRESTED IN CONNECTION WITH FATAL STABBING AT JERSEY CITY LIGHT RAIL STATION

Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez has released the following information:

Members of the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit have arrested a 37-year-old man in connection with the fatal stabbing of Kenneth Brown, 49, of Jersey City, at the Danforth Avenue Light Rail Station in Jersey City.

Anthony Bell, 37, of Jersey City, is charged with Murder in violation of N.J.S.A 2C:11-2a(1) and N.J.S.A 2C:11-2a(2), Unlawful Possession of a Weapon in violation of N.J.S.A 2C:39-5d, and Possession of Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:39-4d. He was arrested at the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office in Jersey City at approximately 1:50 p.m. on Saturday, January 29, 2022, and was remanded to the Hudson County Correctional Facility pending his first court appearance.

On Friday, January 28, 2022 at approximately 11:37 p.m., police were notified of an injured person on the platform of the Danforth Avenue Light Rail Station. Responding officers found a male – later identified as Kenneth Brown, of Jersey City – with an apparent stab wound to his upper body. He was transported by Emergency Medical Services to Jersey City Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at approximately 12:34 a.m. on Saturday, January 29, 2022. The cause and manner of death are pending the findings of the Regional Medical Examiner’s Office.

The above charges are merely accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty. R.P.C.3.6(b)(6)
